Solar Hot Water

There is no doubt about it the cost for gas and electricity is already expensive for most of us and prices are set to continue rising year upon year. With Oil and gas reserves predicted to run out in our planets near future, the time to act is now, save money, cut harmful carbon emissions and future future proof your home by using Greener renewable technology and not depending on gas. More and more people in the UK are becoming aware of climate change and green issues, and the impact their home has on the environment.

Solar Hot Water Heating or Solar Energy is clearly a huge step forward in our modern life style.

A decent well designed Solar Hot Water system using Solar Panels is one of the most cost efficient renewable energy resources available. You could create 50%-70% of your property's hot water requirements for the whole year free; and in the summer months it is quite likely you will not need your to use other means to heat your hot water at all, as your Solar Panels will more than likely do it all! Our Solar Hot Water System (sometimes referred to as A Solar Thermal System) uses very efficient and high quality Solar Panels to convert light into heat, which in turn creates hot water for your home.

A common misunderstanding is that solar energy cannot work in the North West of England due to our climate; however, solar energy does not need bright sunshine or high temperatures to work properly - it only requires daylight and the correct specification of solar panels.

The Benefits of Solar Hot Water in Short:

- Up to 70% of your yearly demand for hot water heated for free.
- Up to 100% of your hot demand heated for free during the summer months.
- Save £££'s on Gas and Electricity.
- Help the environment by reducing your home's carbon emissions by up to 0.75 tons per year.
- Give you heating boiler a break! Solar Hot Water will Extend the life of your boiler as it will only be needed to back the system up.

In addition to all of this, it is anticipated that in June 2011 a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will be introduced under the Governments Clean Energy Cashback Scheme, entitling owners of renewable energy heating systems to similar financial benefits as are currently in place for those who generate their own renewable electricity.

A conventional heating boiler or immersion heater can be used as a back up to heat the water further when necessary in order to reach the required temperature, and Plumbflow's engineers will carefully install the system so that the boiler does not take part when there is plenty of Solar energy available. thereby making sure fuel is not wasted.

Is a solar heating system suitable for my home?

To consider whether solar heating is right for you, there are a few key questions to consider:

Do you have a sunny roof space to place solar panels on?
A south facing roof is ideal, however any roof which faces east to west through south and receives direct sunlight for the main part of the day will probably be suitable for a Plumbflow Solar installation.. Alternatively, if you do not have any south facing roof and if you have space, you could install solar panels on both the roof facing east and the roof facing west - but this will make installation more costly. If you only have a North facing roof then unfortunately a system would not be viable. The solar panels don't always have to be mounted on a roof, they can be fixed to a frame on flat roofs.

Do you have space for a larger, or an extra, hot water cylinder?
If a dedicated solar cylinder is not already installed then you will need to replace the existing cylinder, or sometimes you can add an extra dedicated cylinder with a solar heating coil. Plumbflow Solar Heating engineers will advise you.

Is your current boiler compatible with heating?
Most conventional boiler and hot water cylinder systems are compatible with solar heating. Plumbflow Solar engineers will instal a state of the art Solar control module which can accommodate a variety of situations. If your boiler is a combination boiler (combi) and you don't currently have a hot water tank then a solar hot water system may or may not be compatible, we would have to liase with your boiler manufacture to determine whether it would be suitable for connection to Solar Panels.

Do you need planning permission?
In England most Solar Heating systems don't need planning permission as they are classed as a permitted development, but it is always best to consult your local planning office if you live in a Listed Building, or a building in Conservation Area or World Heritage Site. If you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland you will need to consult your local authority.

Confused? Dont be call Plumbflow and arrange a free survey and we will explain everything fully and provide you with a competitive quote for a top quality highly efficient Solar Heating system to suit your needs.
